This semester, 6 students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science decided to take on the challenge of studying in China. For over a month and a half, we have been attending classes at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. We have the opportunity to learn not only through lectures and exercises but also by participating in projects conducted at the university. Chinese language lessons have been organized for us, allowing us to absorb knowledge and learn about the traditions of the Middle Kingdom in a natural and accessible way. Students from all over the world participate in the classes. Despite the significant cultural, religious, and age differences, we manage to find common ground. Additionally, China offers plenty of attractions that allow us to spend time in an unconventional way. However, before arriving at HUST, we had to endure a nearly 37-hour journey. Thanks to the kindness of the Chinese exchange coordinator, a bus awaited us at Wuhan station, which efficiently took us to the dormitories. This thoughtful gesture made even the 40-degree Celsius heat much more bearable.
China has amazed us with its unique cuisine, extraordinary landscapes, customs, and above all, openness and human kindness. Students from RUT, who decided to extend their adventure related to this exotic country, helped us acclimate. They gave us valuable advice and guidance and also made it easier to navigate one of the largest campuses in the world. Our stay in China provides an opportunity to experience a completely different approach to life, work, and daily responsibilities. Above all, it allows us to see the country not only through the eyes of European tourists but also through the perspective of people who live in this exotic, contrast-filled, and mysterious nation. I believe that upon our return, we will be enriched not only with academic knowledge but also with unforgettable memories.
